The additional qualification is certified

This program allows to get a state-recognized degree entitling to get the job of a specialist with language skills, interpreter in professional (according to the first higher education) field and teacher in professionally oriented English.
Program term of apprenticeship – 3 years (full-time instruction);
1,5 year (external-studies department).

Enrolment is subsequent to the results of the interview in English
(May and September).
Persons, who don’t get through the interview, may be enrolled in the additional basic courses (1-2 years) of English learning.
Lectures are conducted according to the time-table after 4 p.m. twice a week, address: b. 32, Narodnogo Opolcheniya Str.
This program is realized by highly skilled specially trained lecturers.

Lectures on theoretical subjects suggested to students of the additional professional education “Interpreter in the field of professional communication” completely conform to the State Educational Standard of Higher Professional Education and to the Up-to-date Program of Training Interpreters in the field of professional communication (for non-linguistic higher educational institutions). They acquaint students with the most important linguistic topics and problems, key terms which linguistics operates on the given period of its evolution and knowledge of which is necessary for serious English learning.
High-tech based lectures are delivered in an engrossing and dynamic form. They give students an opportunity to feel the linguistic matter, develop the ability to analyze it and understand difficult linguistic problems. They predetermine the rise of interest in language and its investigation, insight in depths of linguistic material.

As time goes on the number of graduates from the additional qualification "Interpreter in the field of professional communication" continues growing. More students passed the Final Certification Exam at the end of December 2008 and June 2009. Those who still continue studying at the University to get the basic education received certificates attesting to a successful mastering of the additional qualification program and those who had graduated from the MTUCI (both bachelors and specialists) received long desired diplomas.

Traditionally, some of them told us of how English learning became for them not only an interesting and sometimes complex academic activity, but also a means for achieving professional realization.


Katya Sennikova: “I work at the Research Institute of Radio, in the Department of Electronic Components Procurement. I am a specialist with the knowledge of English and do the correspondence and negotiations with foreign suppliers, translation of standards, etc. I could not have applied for this position without knowing English and having a diploma of the second (linguistic) education. Additional education has given me a lot. English for Telecommunications is exactly what I need. But I have to improve it myself constantly. I’m very glad that I have chosen and studied under the program. And my parents are very glad too. They take me with them abroad. They joke that they are willing to pay for my travels as being with personal interpreter makes them feel at ease.”


Dima Tukalov works in a company that supplies innovative equipment. “Correspondence and oral communication with representatives of foreign companies are included in the range of my responsibilities. Knowledge of English is an obligatory condition to apply for this position.”


Vladimir Prisyazhnyuk received an interpreter degree in June 2009 and has recently started working in “Megafon”. He tells us: “The second diploma hasn’t played a special role in my job placement. But I believe my efforts were not in vain. A modern communications engineer must know foreign languages. When you go on vacation you feel much more confident. And there are also English books and movies …”


Dasha Korotovskyh works in the Research Institute of Communications and her knowledge of English allows her to do technical translations and hope for broader career opportunities in the future. “And speaking English fluently when on vacation increases self-esteem” – she adds laughing.


Being a student Igor Sinyakin began working with a financial company. Now he holds a solid administrative post. “We do communication and cooperation with international contract agencies. Working papers and detailed business correspondence are held exclusively in English.” Igor believes that training for additional qualification helps keep up with fellow lawyers for whom professionally oriented English for finance is the result of years of study in institutes of higher education and specialized professional work.


Olga Pysina: “I work in a joint venture company which is engaged in organization of events, conferences and exhibitions. This is the Russian-French company but the working language is mainly English. My friends’ and my own examples of getting a job convince that having the second diploma testifying knowledge of English in addition to the basic one has played a huge positive role. Gained on the second education knowledge helped me pass the postgraduate entrance examination and study at post-graduate courses now successfully, being ahead of many other fellows. In everyday life we are faced with the fact that necessary materials, a lot of control panels and links are only available online in English. The knowledge of the language removes the complexity of information retrieval.”


Truhanov Alex: "When I first heard about additional professional education "Interpreter in the field of professional communication", I was pretty skeptical. But I decided to risk and I had no regrets in spite of the fact that the MTUCI is a non-linguistic higher educational institution. We gained not only translation practice of I’d say not simple telecommunication texts but also a large theoretical basis during our studying process. It gave very good results due to highly qualified specially trained tutors. I’d like to thank the whole Foreign Languages Department’s pedagogical staff in the MTUCI and wish them diligent students!"

English version
Students of a professional educational program “Interpreter in the field of professional communication” took part in one more trip to Great Britain. The aim of the trip was to improve English. The students were taught in Colchester English Study Centre (CESC). On successful completing the courses all the students got certificates of the school. They came back to Russia with a lot of impressions on the courses and the travel (the photo report can be found here).   


 Colchester English Study Centre or CESC was opened in 1969 by the publisher Oxford  University Press as a school for teaching English accredited by the British Council and  is open all year round. The town of Colchester with its unique atmosphere of the old and the new contributes a lot to the process of learning English. CESC is located in a beautiful ancient private residence not far from the downtown. Colchester is England’s oldest recorded town and the first Celtic capital during their struggle with the Romans with much to offer to a foreign visitor. Colchester is only 45 minutes by train from the heart of London. Lord Melory, the author of novels about King Arthur was imprisoned in the castle of Colchester. Today the castle houses a museum which tells us much of the town history and is the most important tourist attraction in the region. Colchester   is surrounded by typical picturesque English villages one can`t help admiring.
